Fishing in Twin Oaks Park temporarily suspended

Please be advised that fishing in the Twin Oaks Park lakes is temporarily suspended effective immediately.

To ensure the safety of our visitors and maintain the beauty of our grounds, we are installing a grid system over the water. This mitigation feature is designed to deter Canada geese from nesting in the park while remaining fully accessible to ducks and other local waterfowl.  For additional information on goose control, please consult the Missouri Department of Conservation website

Why these measures are necessary:

  • Visitor Safety: During nesting and breeding season, Canada geese become highly aggressive and territorial. To protect their eggs and goslings, they are known to hiss, charge, and bite, which can lead to injuries for both humans and pets.

  • Wildlife Protection: Canada geese are federally protected under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. After a nest is established, it is illegal to harm the birds, their nests, or their eggs.

  • Proactive Deterrence: By installing these non-lethal grids now, we can discourage geese from establishing nests in high-traffic areas, ensuring a safer environment for everyone once the season concludes.

We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work to keep Twin Oaks Park a safe and enjoyable space for all. We will provide updates as soon as the lakes are ready for fishing to resume.
